If you want an inclusive family event, you better be aiming for a ‘Slay’!

As an event organiser, when creating a family-friendly event, it’s the little things that matter.  The most inclusive family events are the ones where the children simply slot into the day without a care in the world!

How to achieve such a welcoming show? It’s really not that difficult if you can step into a child and parent’s shoes and assess your event through their eyes.

Seeing frustrated parents with bored, hungry or over-excited children at events is not fun for anyone, so here are a few tips to make sure your event hits the spot every time.

Make Eating Child-Friendly!

Adjustable high chairs, a variety of suitable menu options and perhaps a designated space where spills are more than okay will transform the thought of mealtime while out and about into a stress-free and enjoyable family affair.

No More Toilet Floors - Suitable Changing Facilities

No more changing on the floor or trying to find a suitable ledge – providing suitable changing facilities should be a given really but you’d be surprised! Clean and spacious unisex changing rooms equipped with tables, waste disposal, and a welcoming ambience can make all the difference for families with little ones.

The Formula 1 of Buggy Parks and Slings

Navigating a show with a buggy can quite frankly be hell! Recognise the challenges faced by parents with young children and set up designated buggy parks and sling hore – you could even get the slings and park sponsored!

Don’t Just Entertain the Adults

From face painting to interactive storytelling or live performances, creating a range of experiences that will capture a child’s imagination will in turn make their parents happy and content. Don't forget to incorporate quiet areas for families seeking a bit of downtime amidst the excitement.

Help Your Parents Take a Break

Designate supervised play areas where parents can engage with their little ones and help them run off some energy. Activities, toys, and seating will encourage quality family time, especially if you place them near the food outlets so that children can play while parents can take a seat!

Take care of the teens!

If you are allowing 16 year olds into adult events, remember that a child is a child until they are 18.  What content is on the stands at an exhibition or outdoor event?  Will they have easy access to alcohol?  How appropriate are giveaways in goody bags? What arrangements are in place if they become lost or separated from school parties or parents?

Bonus Consideration: Provide a Creche

Of course, we would say this but, considering that we also provide everything outlined above, it’s just the final extra detail that can make all the difference. If a professionally run creche could help transform your event get in touch to see what we could do for you!

Remember that a family-friendly event isn’t just about the children, it’s about creating an environment the whole family enjoys and wants to return to. Doing so will make your event memorable and inclusive to all and add that pester power from children who can't wait to return!
